A participatory public art portrait of the global millennial generation.
In collaboration with fellow photographer Morrigan McCarthy and I traveled 50,000 miles worldwide on bicycle for three and a half years. Together we produced photographic portraits paired with written interviews of individuals born between 1980 and 1995. In six of the countries we did not visit, artists were hired to interview local subjects. We also developed a unique website/portal where additional subjects were invited to submit their own pairing of a portrait and text.
Materials from all three sources were shared with the public as an interactive multimedia show at festivals in Brooklyn, Maine, Hamburg, Holland, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Using GPS and the website, visitors of the show used search parameters to submit a question about the surveyed millennials. Results were presented so the viewer could compare participants from around the world.
The collection exceeds over 2,000 pairs.
